Q&A

What should I talk about in my video?

Whatever is most important to you! That might be the environment, human rights, equality, education or many other things. The choice is really up to you.

Are there any technical requirements?

Yes. Your video should be no more than two minutes long. It can be filmed on any device and can be shot in either portrait or landscape mode. You can ask a family member or a friend to help you film it, or record it yourself. Please make sure you are recording in a well-lit environment and that the audio is well captured and we can hear you.

How do I send you my video?

Once you've finished your video, you should upload it to YouTube as "Unlisted" (Nicht Gelistet) and use our application form to send us the link. Remember not to set your video as "Private" (Privat) as this will mean our assessment team won't be able to access it and won't be able to evaluate your submission.

You can also upload your video on other platforms – just make sure we can access it.
You can see more information on how to upload a video to YouTube here. You can see more information on how to make a video "Unlisted" here.

How will you choose the winners?

An internal, independent jury will consider the best applications and select 5 winners. They will be looking for applications that are well communicated, passionate and personal, but they won't expect them to be perfect or to have been filmed on an expensive camera.

What happens if I win?

You will be invited to come to the British Embassy in Berlin to meet our Ambassador, Andrew Mitchell, and spend two days on 13 and 14 November 2025 taking part in training workshops and events designed to help give you the skills to create change in our societies. We will pay for your travel and accommodation, including for an adult chaperone to join you if you are 16 or 17 years old.

Who can apply to Ambassador for a Day? Do I need to be German?

Ambassador for a Day is open to all young people aged between 16 and 20 years. You need to be living in Germany, but there is no citizenship requirement. Ambassador for a Day is open to people of all backgrounds and is trans-inclusive.
